Why Munnar is Considered as an All Season Travel Destination in Kerala

When it comes to my favorite Indian travel destination in Kerala, the first name that comes to my mind is Munnar. This is a beautiful hill station located in Kerala, which is a south Indian state and this hill station has all the typical features of an Indian hill station. Munnar is regarded as one of the most vibrant and beautiful hill stations in India and people from different countries visit this beautiful hill station during the peak tourism period. Due to its amazing scenic beauty and cool climatic condition, Munnar is also known as the Kashmir of South India Munnar is located in the Idukki district of Kerala and is at an altitude of around 5,200 ft above the sea level.

The term "Munnar" literally means three rivers and the three rivers mentioned in this name are Mudhirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers respectively. Nestled in the western ghats mountain ranges, Munnar is blesed with abundance of natural beauty, resources and climate which has become the trademark of this hill station. Due to these features Munnar is also considered as a perfect summer retreat center for travellers worldwide.

Apart from its natural beauty and cool climatic condition, this hill station in Kerala is also known for its amazing wildlife resources and the presence of a number of wildlife resources and sanctuaries affirms this claim. Some of the major wildlife resources in and around Munnar include Kurinjimala Sanctuary, the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Amaravati reserve forest, the Eravikulam National Park, Anamudi Shola National Park, the Pampadum Shola National Park and the proposed Palani Hills National Park

I have been to Munnar quite a number of times, but still I have only explored less than 10 percentage of this amazing travel destination in Kerala. There are a lot of unexplored travel spots in and around this place, which will make you feel wondered and excited. Another major aspect of this place is that you will never get bored even if you pay a visit every day. Such is the amazing variety of the natural beauty and resources of Munnar, that you will always love to visit this location again and again.

In my personal experience, I have visited this place during different seasons and each season provided me a different type of travel experience that I have not felt in any other travel places I have visited so far. I have visited Munnar during the winter, summer, autumn and the rainy seasons. During each season, this hill station in Kerala comes up with different and varied natural beauty and also provides you with travel locations suited for different climates. The only tough season that I found while visiting was the rainy season, as the rain was heavy and there was also dangers related to natural calamities especially landslides. But if we take certain precautions, then the rainy season will also turn out to be the best time to visit Munnar.

Apart from just enjoying the natural beauty such as the fog covered hills and tea plantations, there are a lot of things that makes this hill station more unique and attractive. In Munnar, you can indulge in a lot of activities such as adventure rides, boating, trekking, bird watching, animal watching and more. Each year some new adventure companies start their operations in Munnar to offer various adventure activities to the tourists and I have seen some adventure activities that are quite unique to this place. There will be no shortage of any kind of adventure activities in Munnar and this place has all the essential qualities to become a major adventure tourism destination of Kerala in the coming years.

I have been visiting Munnar for the last 18 years and have almost been there 10-12 times. Most of the time, my visit was not from a travel point of view, rather it was for some other personal needs. But still I was able to enjoy the amazing beauty of Munnar and I never forgot to take some beautiful snaps of this hill station so that I can cherish for my lifetime. In the summer, the low lying lands of Kerala will experience severe hot and humid climatic conditions which makes life more miserable. During this time, most of the people make a trip to Munnar and other similar hill station, where the climate is indeed cool throughout the year.

In the summer seasons, you can easily wander about and watch more of the major travel attractions in and around Munnar and during this time, the climate will be most suited for sightseeing and trekking. The day time will be cool and it turns colder towards the evening. You can rent a resort, lodge or hotel in Munnar and you can spend your evening enjoying some good food along with the amazing climatic condition. You will never feel bored, even if you sitting inside the rooms of your hotel or resort. Such is the charisma of Munnar that you can enjoy it from any circumstances.

In the Autumn, the place becomes more beautiful as you can see the lush green tea plantation and the misty mountains at its best along with some beautiful flowers and birds that are seen during this period. Munnar become more beautiful during the Autumn season, and you will be able to experience a memorable and stunning view of the hill station. There will be a rise in the number of tourists visiting this place during the Autumn and Munnar becomes more busy and crowded during this period. The evening chill will be there and you can enjoy your evening at the hotels by enjoying your favorite food and having some fun activities like camp fire and music. The only thing that you need to take care regarding your health is to do proper clothing to get protected from the cold weather and avoid drinking water that are not hygienic. It is better to drink bottled water so that you might not end up having a bad stomach or other kind of illness.

During the monsoon season, Munnar embraces heavy and continuous rains which makes the hills more beautiful, but you will be prevented from wandering around and enjoy the beauty of the Munnar hills during the rainy season. There are also other dangers of unexpected flood, landslides and other related problems which can be a threat to your life. If you would like to visit Munnar during the monsoon season, it will be better if you hire a cottage or resort in a place where you can enjoy the scenic beauty. You can sit inside the resort, have a cup of hot tea and snacks and simultaneously enjoy the amazing beauty of the rain and landscape outside the resort. Apart from this, you will not be able to wander out and explore other major attractions in Munnar.

The winter season in Munnar comes during the month of November to March and this period is considered as one of the most ideal time to visit this hill station in Kerala. The winter seasons provides a picturesque view of Munnar at its best. The number of tourists arriving Munnar will be at its peak during this season and one will be able to view the major attractions and travel spots in and around Munnar in a better way. The heavy mist during the winter makes Munnar more beautiful and you can enjoy the sight of the hill stations covered with mist that looks like a white blanket.

In short, all the major seasons are best for visiting Munnar in different ways. You cannot point out a season when it is not at all advisable to visit Munnar. This is the major reason why Munnar is regarded as an all season travel destination in Kerala. The tourism industry never comes to a halt in Munnar and it only slows down a bit during some seasons. So for anyone who is planning to visit Munnar in the future, then can have a flexible option while selecting the time and season for that.
