My Visit to Thiruvananthapuram - The City of Statues in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram is the Capital City of Kerala in India and Kerala is one of the most beautiful State in India which is well known for its tourism potential and resources. This city is marked by the presence of a large number of State and Central Government Offices and is often seen as pleasant and clean when compared with the other major cities in Kerala. The city of Thiruvananthapuram is the district headquarters of Thiruvananthapuram District and is located at the southern part of Kerala.

Thiruvananthapuram was formerly known as 'Trivandrum' and was had a lot of nick names depending upon various factors. It was called by Mahatma Gandhi as the "Evergreen City of India" and this clearly speaks about the importance of Thiruvananthapuram city. The city is also ranked as one of the best city to live in Kerala and is also ranked by other organizations as one of the best cities in India. You can see people from mixed culture, religion and languages living peacefully in Thiruvananthapuram, which will surely provide an idea about how great this place is to be.

I used to visit Thiruvananthapuram very frequently during my younger days, but after getting job and assuming more responsibility, I did not get an opportunity to visit this beautiful city for the last 8 years. Recently I had a chance to visit the capital city of Kerala for some official matter and once I landed at the Thiruvananthapuram railway station, I was really stunned. The reason was the sight of the amazing development this city has undergone since I last visited, and there was some occasion when I really got confused about the most familiar places and its locations.

A lot of new buildings and architectural beauties have arisen in the city which fascinates anyone who loves this place. The old buildings were not demolished to give way for the new buildings, rather the old buildings were retained and maintained in the best possible ways. At the same time a lot of new buildings came up at various places in and around Thiruvananthapuram, which created such a huge make-over to this wonderful city. The authorities have also taken utter care in maintaining the overall cleanliness which is yet another hallmark of this city when we compare it with any other cities in Kerala.

Another thing that I noticed while travelling through the city was the presence of a good number of statues at almost all the major junctions and it gave me the feeling that Thiruvananthapuram should be called as "The City of Statues" as this name suite more. Even in the earlier period, there was the presence of statues in Trivandrum city and these are even a junction named as "Statue Junction". While travelling through the city you can see statues of political and economical leaders who have contributed a lot towards the development of the city as well as of other national leaders also.

When it comes to the traffic inside the city, it is very much affordable when compared with the other major India cities. I saw some kind of increase in the traffic only during the peak office hours and apart from that, the city remains calm and very much enjoyable to take a ride. The presence of Government buildings such as Museums, Corporation Offices, Legislative Assembly building, stadium, parks, Temples, Mosques, Churches, Colleges, Schools etc all make this city a perfect place to have a good and calm time.

If you travel away from the city, you can even get to visit a number of top class tourist destinations such as the Kovalam beach, Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Ponmudi Hill Stations, Neyyar Dam, Vizhinjam Harbour, Shankhumugham etc. Eventhough I didn't get a chance to visit any of the travel attractions in Thiruvananthapuram this time, I am quite aware of these places, as I had visited these travel locations in the past. So it is highly recommended to take a trip to any of these travel attractions in Thiruvananthpuram to get a better feel of this city. Another major advantage of Trivandrum is that it is well connected to the other major Indian cities by air, rail and road.

I reached Thiruvananthapuram at 10.30 AM and had to leave the city by 4:00 PM, which left me with no other chances rather than to get an overview of the place while travelling through the city. Rather I was also busy with some official works, but I have decided to stay for atleast 2 to 3 days and visit some of the major travel attractions in Thiruvananthapuram the next time I visit this beautiful city. Till then I have only some snaps and videos that I have taken when I visited this place recently.
