5 Healthy Link Building Tips After Google Penguin Update

Updated on July 23, 2012

Link building activities have got a major turnover after the Google Penguin update which was released few months back as a move to improve the overall link quality of websites. The Google Penguin update aims at devaluing unimportant backlinks to a particular site and improve the overall quality of backlinks. A lot of website whose link building strategies did not come under the Google Penguin update criteria, have dealt with a major blow. But those websites whose link building activities were done as per the criteria mentioned in Google Penguin Update have not faced any serious problems.

Here are some basic things that would help your website to remain in the search engine rankings even after the Google Penguin update. All these points are purely based on the link building activities that are focused on getting backlinks for the website and improving its overall search engine visibility. Have a look at the points given below.

1) Do not be aggressive
Do not try to build backlinks in an aggressive way as it will send negative signals to Google. Always do link building in a moderate way so that nothing unusual signal generated from your site. Show the patience in getting quality and relevant backlinks to your site so that your site receives the best benefits from these links in the long run.

2) Be wise
Always use your common sense while building your links and this include the way you place and use your anchor text, the content from where you try to get backlink, content relevancy etc. Otherwise you will be simply landing into trouble due to silly mistakes, from which you will find it difficult to make a comeback.

3) Submit Unique Articles
Article submission is considered as the best way to get backlinks, but what most of the webmasters were doing was to create an article spin it and submit in into a huge list of article directories. This thing will not work now as Google has tightened its grip on unique content after the Penguin update and SEO professionals are forced to avoid duplicate or spinned article submission at any cost. If you want to do article marketing, better create a unique article and submit it only in one of the top article directories.

4) Stay Away from Bulk Directory Submission
Directory submission was used extensively by SEOs in a hope of getting it approved and building backlinks. But most of the directories included in bulk directory lists are of low quality and Google has started devaluing links from these low quality directories. So better stay away from bulk directory submission and if you still need to do directory submission, submit manually in any of the best and reputed online directories.

5) Avoid Blog Comment Spamming
Blog comment spamming is one of the weird ways of getting backlinks and this has been used very badly by SEOs in hope of getting backlinks and improves the overall search engines. In blog comment spamming a user simply tries to put their website URL link and a comment which are not at all related to the content of a particular blog post page. This is being marked by Google and if you are serious about the search engine performance of your website, then better stay away from such activities.
