Benefits of Radius Targeting in Adwords Location Based Campaigns

Updated on April 4, 2013

Adwords is one of the most powerful online marketing medium that I have come across and I am quite impressed and amazed at the potentiality of this online marketing tool by Google. Adwords will be of great help when you need to get targeted traffic to your website instantly and even if you have to pay for this, Google Adwords is worth it. Webmasters all over the world look upon Google Adwords to get relevant and potential visitors in shortest period of time.

I am not an expert in Adwords, but I have been using it for some time and have found it extremely useful in all aspects of my online marketing activities. Initially I always ended up wasting my money on Adwords without getting any good or worthy conversion. But gradually I managed to learn the basics of Adwords and also learned how to get a better Return Over Investment (ROI) with an Adwords account.

Adwords have many features that attract online marketing specialists and they keep on updating and upgrading its various features based on various market studies. One of the major features of Adwords that I find very much useful is the Radius Targeting option in campaigns that are location based. This feature has been very much effective to me and I have also been able to manage a much better ROI with my Adwords account.

Most of us target various Adwords campaign for a particular country or city so as to get better conversion rate. Consider that you have a business that caters from only a particular geographical location and you are getting enquiry through Adwords campaign from far away location in the particular country. The nature of the business is such that you will be able to process and deliver your products or services to places near your business center only.

In this case the leads coming far away from your business place will be considered as bad leads, as you will not be able to offer your services and all these enquiries will come from a paid click, which will indeed be a loss of money for you. So from 100 leads coming from Adwords campaign, only 10-15 of them might be good leads as you will be in a position to offer your services. And the rest of them will be bad leads, and you are indeed wasting your Adwords budget for the remaining 80-85 bad links.

This is where the Radius Targeting of Adwords comes into play and this option is very much helpful in fine tuning the geographical location of your Adwords Campaign. In Radius Targeting option, you can set a particular geographical radius for your Adwords campaign, so that you will be getting leads from only that particular region.

Consider that your company is able to provide services to only upto a distance of 40 kms from its physical location. In this case while you select the physical location of your company or business, you can set the Radius Targeting to 40 kms and you will be getting clicks to your Adwords advertisements only from 40 kms around your physical location.

This will indeed reduce the number of bad leads and majority of the leads you receive will be good ones and will be having high conversion potentials. So if you have any business similar to the one mentioned in the above lines, then you should at once set your Radius Targeting in your Adwords account to prevent the flow of leads that do not convert.

It is pretty easy to set your Radius Targeting in Adwords account. Simply go to the option for changing the location in your Adwords Campaign. There you can see an option called Advanced Search, clicking upon which you will be taken to another box, where you can enter a country, city, region or zip code. At the top of the new box, you can see a link named “Radius Targeting” and when you click on that link, you will see a box to enter the city or region along with an option to enter the radius distance.

Once you enter the name of the place and the particular radius distance, your Adwords advertisements will show only for searches from the mentioned distance range of your physical location and you will not get unwanted leads from places to which you cannot provide your services or products. This will make sure that you are making the most from the benefits of online advertising along with an enviable ROI.
